English 7: We have started our novel for the quarter, Ghost. We will use the main character in this novel to talk about what we can learn from our past as we gear up to write our personal narrative in a couple of weeks. Students have weekly slides as well as daily bell ringers for grades right now.
English 7D: We have started Chinese Cinderella and will read this for the next few weeks. At the end of each week, we get into lit circles and discuss the novels, almost like adults do! Students are held accountable for their reading with weekly slides and check in with their groups to make sure they are keeping up with the reading pace decided upon by their groups. Students may check out a book from me if they need to catch up.

We are wrapping up our discussions on civic online reasoning and the importance of developing skills necessary to be able to prove a claim true or false, especially one you find online. It is important to be skeptical of what we find online, especially considering we will be completing online research throughout social studies class this year. This week, we will begin Unit 2: The Rise and Fall of Classical Societies, which will be our first history lessons of the year. We will be talking about empires, defining what an empire is, and how they impacted our early world history. Ancient societies in Greece (Athens & Sparta), Persia (Achaemenid Empire), Rome, and the Qin & Han Dynasty of China are the largest and most impactful empires we will be discussing in this unit.
