Current Unit: Race It: Solar Cars
Unit Objectives: (Race It: Solar Cars) LPS has partnered with Lincoln Electric Systems (LES) to create a module in which students use problem-solving skills to work with a team to design a solar car. Students will understand gear ratios, torque, and how solar energy affects the movement of their solar car. Students will then create a public service announcement that shows their understanding and promotes alternative energy use.
Looking Ahead: Please check ParentVue to monitor your child’s progress in class. Students will be racing their Solar Cars around September 20. After the race, students will work with their team to create a Public Service Announcement highlighting the benefits of renewable energy.
In Computer Science 6, students are in a unit on Ozobot Robots, which are small line-following robots that we code using hand-drawn lines and bits of color as blocks of code. The big project for this unit is a storytelling project in which students will retell a popular fairy tale while Ozobot moves along a unique path hand drawn by pairs of students.
In PE, students are continuing to work on their softball skills. Students have been working on throwing and catching the softball with a glove. Teachers are looking for the correct throwing and catching form when we do our assessments on each student. This week, students are working on batting and being in the correct position when hitting the ball off of the batting tee.
The 6th grade students in art class have been creating their own Neurographic Art! We have been focusing on the theme of play and meditation for this unit and discussing how art can be used as a meditative process to calm the mind.
The students are also creating an explosion book where we will incorporate origami to create a foldable book where pieces of our Neurographic Art will go.
