What happens if my child needs support?

If your child has an identified additional support need, this information will be shared with us prior to your child starting in S1 at Alva Academy. We have a robust transition system in place so all staff will be aware of your child’s needs prior to meeting them.

Our specialist ASN teachers create profiles containing summaries of pupil need and suggested support strategies. Profiles are made accessible to all staff within the school and a brief summary is added to the digital register to give teachers real-time access to each young person’s additional support need.

If your child does NOT have an identified additional support need but you have concerns surrounding their learning, in the first instance raise these concerns with your child’s PTPS. Your concerns will then be discussed with the link ASN teacher who will consult with the family, young person and class teachers to get a full picture of the difficulties being experienced and advise on the best way forward.
