Enhanced Personal and Social Education (PSE)
Whilst all our young people will access PSE in school, some may need additional focused work around health and relationships. This does not replace their PSE lessons in school, but will compliment and build on learning and understanding. In S3, the young people will focus on growing up, adolescence/puberty, emotional/physical changes and increased self awareness.
Personal Achievement
In S3, the Personal Achievement Award is designed to enable learners to develop confidence, to develop their independence, and their ability to communicate and respond to others in their own way. Learners will also have the opportunity to participate in a range of new and familiar activities, and to experience and contribute to their community across a range of social contexts.
The Personal Achievement Award (SCQF level 2) has three different stages of achievement: Bronze, Silver and Gold. Learners can progress through the Bronze, Silver and Gold stages, building on their achievements at each stage.
The main aims of the Award are to enable learners to develop:
skills to support them to work towards independence
an ability to work with others
communication skills
thinking skills
knowledge and understanding of the context chosen for study
The Award also provides a framework for learners
to develop knowledge as well as skills for learning, skills for life and skills
for work.
The Award would be useful for learners who enjoy practical learning activities that can be tailored to meet their own individual needs and interests, and for whom achievement is best recognised in small steps.
National 2 Lifeskills Maths
In S3 pupils will work towards National 2 Lifeskills Maths. This qualification will allow learners to consolidate and further extend their mathematical and numerical skills developed through the experiences and outcomes for Mathematics. Through the study of Lifeskills Mathematics at National 2, learners are encouraged to develop their confidence and ability to tackle real-life situations using mathematics. Learners will become more able to make informed choices based on their understanding of: numeracy; shape and space; interpretation of data; and the use of money, time and measurement in real-life contexts. This understanding will lead to increased confidence, which in turn will encourage greater participation in everyday activities. This course will be delivered predominantly in an interactive format.
