Natural Reader is a free text-to-speech software which we have downloaded on our IT devices and is available to be downloaded at home. This software helps pupils who have difficulty with reading and processing written information as they can access it digitally and hear the text spoken through headphones.
As well as standard voices, Natural Reader also offers 4 Scottish voices which often helps when listening. You can also alter the speed at which the text is read.
It can read text from:
Microsoft Word
PDFs, including digital examination papers
E-mails
Internet pages
Natural reader can be used in two ways:
Copy and paste text from the source into the Natural Reader program window
Use of the ‘Miniboard’ function which sits on top of other programs. Here you simply highlight the text and hit the ‘play’ button.
