City Lit, alongside other adult education providers, is required to evidence the progress and achievement of our learners on non accredited courses. We need to show our students learn even though there are no tests or exams!
We are trying to make this as simple as possible but it does require some paperwork
Departments vary in their requirements, but the basic ones are below.
Collect evidence of learners starting points and implications for teaching and learning
Introduce your learners to the Individual Record of Learning (or equivalent document). Discuss and get them to complete the first page. Collect and keep these during the course.
You can set up your IRL on Google Classroom - go to to this link below find out more: Individual Record of Learning
Construct a group profile and initial assessment record, based on the IRLs and anything else you discover in the early sessions of the course. Consider any implications for teaching where relevant. An example is on this site: www.citylit.ac.uk/RARPA
Keep evidence of planning and informal notes on progress.
You should be able to show you have planned your sessions and the course to meet the outcomes. This can be on a scheme of work and/or lesson plan forms, or it may be on a powerpoint or a well planned Google Classroom.
Make any adjustments in response to your learners' progress and needs as you go along. Doing this as handwritten notes is perfect. Make any notes about individuals that you need to remember on your scheme of work, lesson plans or simply in a notebook.
Plan an end of course review
Plan for a final review (or 'summative' assessment') to celebrate learners success. This may be a display of paintings, a final piece of work, a performance, a quiz etc. If you are being moderated you will need to provide evidence of this to your department.
Ask learners to complete part 2 of the Individual Record of Learning.
Make sure you tick and sign to show the learner has achieved most or all of the learning outcomes, and if possible, write a comment on what they have achieved and their next challenge. Unless you are being moderated, return the Individual Records of Learning to the student at the end of the course.
Moderation
Every couple of years your department will ask you to produce your RARPA records, and evidence of student achievement.
Your department will advise you about how this can be done in your subject. It includes photos, recordings, written evidence eg from a quiz, a report on individual students or a visit to your class by a member of your department.
Record your students' achievement
This is completed on EBS ontrack - City Lit's online system - in the same place as your register. It asks you to judge whether each of your learners has met some or all of the learning outcomes. It provides statistical data for City Lit.
