The interactive whiteboard in each classroom acts as a touch computer screen, and can also act as a conventional whiteboard. It is connected to the internet. It is possible, for example, to show a powerpoint, a film on u-tube, a sound clip, take notes from a discussion, or create activities where students can come up to the board and participate.
Contact digital learning who can show you how to use an interactive whiteboard if these are new to you: digital.learning@citylit.ac.uk
Google classroom is an online learning environment specific to your class. Students log on with a special city lit google username and a class code. You can use it to share handouts and materials so those who have missed a session can download what they have missed - but this is not its most interesting use. Try and make it added value by putting up material students can only access through here eg a video, a piece of reading, or something relevant and interesting from the internet, or use the student forum feature. This will encourage the whole group to log on. There is detailed guidance here or contact digital.learning@citylit.ac.uk for help, both for you and your students.
Zoom is a videoconferencing app which allows you to meet with your students online. City Lit has Zoom licences which can be allocated to you like a classroom for the time of your class. You will find links and help with using Zoom in Unit 8.
There are various apps which are easy to use and enable you to create quizzes, games, pinboards with students own ideas, or upload your students' work. See Unit 8 for some examples.
