In the following video, City Lit tutors discuss why they use learning outcomes and how they share them with learners
(Please note: you will hear some tutors use the term 'learning objectives'. At City Lit we use both terms - 'outcomes' and 'objectives' - to mean the same thing.)
In the video, you will have heard tutors describe how they share learning outcomes with learners at the start of the session.
However, sometimes tutors only discuss them midway during the session, or even right at the end of the class. You might do this if, for example, you think the learning outcomes will be incomprehensible to learners at the start. If they experience the learning first, the learning outcomes will make more sense.
Amanda does this in her abstract art class. She enables learners first to practice the skills and then summarises the class by discussing the learning outcomes. You can see this in the programme for her session on the right.
