SMART GOAL
Specific: My aim with this project is to raise awareness of our increasing reliance on technology and the internet to connect and interact socially, particularly in the midst of a pandemic. Social media has influenced people's lives in a number of ways, both positive and negative. Therefore, setting restrictions on the type of content we consume, as well as recognizing our digital limitations and boundaries, may help us utilize social media more productively.
Measurable: Throughout the planning process, I developed my own personal timeline, which summarizes the activities and due dates that I have set for myself to fulfill the specific assignment listed in the timeline. It would help me keep track of what I needed to get done for the project as well as the deadline. I will also keep a personal project journal to document my progress during the process.
Achievable: I employed three major stages to guide me through the completion of my project. The first step was to investigate and conduct research. From grasping the concept and message of my artwork, investigating various materials that may be used for the artwork, defining a style for my artwork, defining a color scheme, and generating a simple concept for my artwork. The next step is to create a sketch or design that represents the concept in an understandable manner and allows me to visualize how the artwork will appear. Finally, the painting process, developing a website to publish and showcase the artwork, as well as collecting feedback and reflecting on the project.
Realistic: I chose to do mixed-media artwork since it allows me to explore a variety of methods and materials. I thought the personal project would be a fantastic opportunity for me to rekindle my love for art while also having total creative control over what I wanted to create. I hope to be able to create an artwork that will serve as a reminder for people to take a step back and recognize our digital limitations and boundaries, allowing us to utilize social media more productively.
Timebound: In September, I will begin creating questions and a Google form to conduct a survey on people's thoughts on social media and how it affects their daily lives, as well as researching the sorts of media/materials I want to use within my artwork. Further investigation will be conducted in October, which will include the sketch-making process as well as gathering feedback and findings from the google form survey. Preparing for action, purchasing materials, and the making process will take place in November. The artwork will then be displayed on a website, and the audience's feedback will be used to reflect on the product/outcome.
ATL
Research skills: The ability to discover an answer to a question or a solution to a problem, acquire knowledge about my topic, analyze that material, then analyze and interpret that information in a way that leads to a solution. I used research skills to get as much information as I needed to achieve my aim and finish my project, by being able to present my topic in an artwork form. Research skills are definitely much needed and very important considering that I'm not quite experienced in creating mixed media artwork, so all the resources and the information I gathered were really helpful for my project.
Thinking skills: To address difficulties or challenges along the process, make different decisions, create survey questions, set deadlines, organize and apply information. To create my product, I used creative thinking skills, for brainstorming ideas, concepts, and techniques for my artwork.
EXPERTS INTERVIEW
I did some research into the materials and techniques that are most likely to be employed in a mixed media artwork and how to utilize the materials effectively. I use the Pinterest application to collect images that might inspire me in creating the sketch for my artwork. I asked my art teacher for advice and tips on how to use spray paint since I've never used it before and have always been intrigued by how it works, so it's a new experience. I also created a survey, I chose to do so in order to learn more about how other people perceive social media, how it impacts them, and whether social media has the same influence on them as it does on me. By completing this survey, I'll be able to decide which elements to include in the painting to symbolize these concerns. My plan is to choose a few keywords from the survey results to help me decide what visuals, components, and colors to utilize in the artwork to properly communicate the message.
RESEARCH RESULTSI utilized my creative thinking skills to design my product after conducting research to achieve my learning objective. Before constructing the final piece, I brainstormed concepts and strategies for my artwork. There are so many options with mixed media, but with the help of my research findings, I already have a clear concept of how I want my artwork to appear, what methods I want to add to the artwork, the materials I need, and so on. My art teacher's advice on how to handle spray paint safely and effectively has proven to be really beneficial. The survey was held in order to understand more about how other individuals perceive social media and how it impacts them. From the research results, we can see that people my age can relate to my topic, most of my audience interpret social media in the same sense, and that the topics I spoke about were somehow relevant to my target audience.
PROCESS AND PRODUCT
Throughout my planning and brainstorming process, I would regularly write down ideas that I had. So, for my artwork, I wanted every piece and drawing that I created, every sentence that I included, and every color that I chose to have a purpose. I decided to include a painting of a person with her face dragged into her phone to represent how disconnected we may get from reality if we don't recognize our digital limitations. The melting look is inspired by the difficulty in realizing how much time has passed when scrolling through social media. One line from my survey results in particular inspires me: "Social media can be incredibly poisonous at times, draining a lot of my confidence, so it is critical to consider when you need to shut off from the internet," and it is for this reason that I chose to include a stop sign in the artwork. I'd say that the survey form also serves as a source of inspiration for me. I wanted to include a phrase in my artwork, so I created a single statement that I believe successfully expresses the message. I chose the phrase "it's crucial to have digital limitations." Because I want my artwork to act as a reminder.
My final product is a piece of artwork titled "Digital World" Digital World is an artwork inspired by our increasing reliance on technology and the addictive nature of social media, as well as how it has influenced people's lives in a variety of ways, both positively and negatively. My aim with this project is to raise awareness of how important it is to recognize our digital limitations and set boundaries for our own well-being. I want to be able to communicate this message and create an artwork that serves as a reminder to take a step back and utilize social media productively.

CHALLENGES
The most challenging aspect of this project is once again managing my time, but in terms of product, I would say that the artwork is pretty difficult to create. There were instances when I had to remove my paint or paint over a specific color since the tones didn't fit well together or I kept changing my mind on what color I wanted to use. I didn't understand how difficult it was to control spray paint because it always puts the paint in a pretty broad expanse rather than a line, but I made it work and took advantage of the effect that the spray paint created. I struggled the most with constructing the phone since it was quite tough to make the camera holes balance, so I opted to keep it plain. Yet, I regret not putting cameras on it because it would make the phone look more realistic. There are numerous instances when I feel stuck, like when I don't know what colors to use for certain illustrations or what to add to empty spaces that I had, but then I recall the survey I took and read through the replies. One sentence, in particular, inspires me, "Social media can be really poisonous at times, draining a lot of my confidence, so it is critical to consider when you need to shut off from the internet." and that's why I decided to add a stop sign to the artwork. I would say that i get a lot of my inspiration from the survey form as well.
PERSONAL IMPACT
Throughout the project, I get to use and experiment with a range of various art techniques and materials. Overall, I feel I have achieved my goal of being able to experiment with art while simultaneously conveying a message that helps us understand our digital limitations and boundaries, as well as how they have influenced people's lives in a variety of ways, both positively and negatively. Completing my own project has helped me improve my thinking skills and research skills, It has also helped me understand how individuals my age perceive social media in the same sense.
COMMUNITY IMPACT
My artwork presents the content in a clear way and can be easily understood. Given the addictive nature of social media, this artwork serves as a reminder that it is vital to recognize our digital limitations. Social media restrictions should be created in order to establish healthy boundaries for ourselves, and how important it is to utilize them efficiently.
PLAN TO SUSTAIN THE PROJECT
I'm not planning on continuing the project for the time being, but if I do, I'd like to make it a series, with a few additional artworks that relate to the first one. The artwork will have somewhat different meanings but are linked in some way, and I can add those to the site I developed. I was intending on doing more than one artwork, but with the deadlines we have, I don't think I'd be able to work on each painting efficiently, so continuing my project with a few more artworks could be a fun experience in the future.
THANK YOU!
