so what is my project?
A food blog dedicated to Indonesian cuisine, it documents the recipes, the history and the culture around the food itself, my general mission statement can be summarized within my blog itself.
" I want to introduce audiences and international foodies to Indonesian cuisine, as a form of diplomacy through food. As someone who enjoys the culinary processes and arts such as eating, cooking, techniques and the stories behind the food. I recognize that the cultural importance of food has significance and needs to be shared and that's why I wanted to start this blog. In this blog I want to share my experience with the food, sharing recipes, the history and significance of the food. "
I’ve always taken an interest in food, I remember when my nanny used to make scrambled eggs for me, I always offered to help scrambled the eggs, and the process of food making itself is intriguing. The Culinary process is interesting and involves a lot of techniques and chemistry. a lot of physics and science goes into food and the general rules and working around the logic of cooking. With this logic comes the problem solving side, like how do I make my tough meat more tender, how do I infuse flavor into my dish, in my opinion that is the very essence of cooking.
so why a blog?
For this personal product, I decided to choose to make a blog archiving Indonesian foods. Each post will spend time discussing the food, it's history, the recipe and my experience cooking the food. A Blog is a simple and easy way to communicate with an audience, especially with recipes. As for why I didn't go for videos, production can take a considerable amount of time to make as the production includes a lot of equipment, editing and effort. With me already struggling to manage my time with regular curricular assignments I decided against video. Another benefit of a blog is that I can go in depth with story telling without making the blog take up too much time for the reader since they can read at their own pace.
Learning
I have learned proper communication of ideas, and how to convey those ideas, I've learned to conduct better research for the future, keeping my notes more organized and to make my notes more structured
Reflecting
(i) The impacts of the project to Myself and Others
One of the impacts that this project had on me is due to the fact that Om William Wongso has recommended me to an intern job with one of his chef friends. I have an opportunity to intern in a Bali village as a cook.
Another impact that this Project has on me is the fact that that I did it in the first place, doing a Project like this has greatly boosted my confidence in my abilities, this overall project inspires me to do even more Projects, the experience when going through this Project gives me an Idea on what a Project needs, what the goals are and how to set a Plan.
Not only that I have a suitable method to share Indonesian Cuisine with friends, peers and other readers of the Blog
Overall, I am proud of what and that I feel that my Product was successful, however there are many things that I feel are missing from the final product based on the criteria. The Success Criteria itself is fine although I feel as though I didn't specify the perimeters well enough and this also applies to my action plan. Despite the fact that I have scheduled my meeting with om William Wong So, I wasn't the one who contacted him in the first place, due to bad time management skills. It was my mom who ended up contacting him. I was fortunate, though, that my mother knew him.
I did research how rendang came to be and found an interesting theory by the chef Om William Wong, however I feel like I could dig deeper.
One thing that I realized in hindsight is that I needed to define my goals more clearly. With a better designed Goal Rubric, I would better define what I want out of both the process and the product. Defined needs that I could communicate with the people I’m working with, so they can help me in a way that would benefit my learning goals. Having a detailed rubric may give me a better understanding of my Project, where it falls short and give me more insight. It also would give me the benefit of reflection, as I could reflect upon what I was thinking about when creating those rubrics and if those rubrics matched the needs of the final Product.
A better designed Plan would help me organize myself giving myself more to do. By adding more stages specialized for the smaller parts of the greater plan, it would help me break down my work and give me more to do and more things to perfect fine tuning my product into a better state both in product and in having a cleaner and more optimized process.
Another thing that I could do better is also focus on the spread of Padang and the popular padang restaurant, as Rendang is commonly served in those restaurants. Doing a section about Padang Restaurants may give readers more cultural context on what eating Rendang is like for most Indonesians.
