The Oblivious Cook, my personal project title. My product in this personal project is a two part video series of me learning and cooking based on a recipe, in this personal project I wanted to to something that is related to something i was interested in, I wanted to learn to cook and be able to create something out of nothing. To cook on my own. Combining the raw ingredients into one homogenous dish, which of course needed to be edible. This idea was nothing but a dream, I was fascinated to how things were made and how I have come to appreciate how the process of cooking something was very meticulous. in short I was fascinated by the art of cooking. In all of the years that I have lived, never have I cooked or attempted to cook anything, for me or anyone else, and for many of these reasons I knew that this would be the place where I could start my cooking journey.

The plan for my video series is to be posted on TikTok. I chose TikTok as one of the social media platforms where I will be sharing my videos because it was the most accommodating, the first reason being that it allowed me to reach my targeted demographic based on the type of video I was making, and it was also a place where I could post 3-minute videos that did not need to be searched for people to see. I am sharing my videos through here also in the hopes of inspiring others to start cooking, like how I got my start on getting interested in cooking from these short tutorial types of videos. for the videos I made i wanted to reach a viewer count of somewhere along the lines of 100 different people, collectively I got as much as 112 views.

ATL Skills

During the creation of my personal project, mainly, i used 1 ATL Skill the most. Many abilities, ranging from communication to self-management, we’re bound to grow during this assignment, but in my case, one of the most visible skills I would say was my research skills. What does it mean to be able to conduct research? Research talents are the ability to find, identify, extract, organize, appraise, and use or present information that is relevant to a certain situation. Academic research is a type of study that entails a thorough and rigorous examination of a subject. In response to a specific research question or idea, it usually comprises a thorough search, investigation, and critical analysis. It typically necessitates a substantial quantity of reading. The goal of any academic research is to be able to convey something with a thorough understanding of the subject at hand. I used Research skills the most during the development of my Personal Project, out of all the ATL skills provided in the IB education system. I was able to gather, report on, and use a wide range of data and sources here. During the project's development, I was also able to take effective notes. This was evident during the research phase as well as the production of my entire project. During the exploration phase of a personal project. I was able to locate resources that would assist me in reaching my goals.

Challenges

There were numerous challenges that I experienced throughout the course of this personal endeavor, one of which, as cliche as it may sound, was my ability to divide and use those moments wisely, i mean my time. For one thing, I wouldn't argue that I didn't spend my time properly; in my perspective, I didn't take a lot of things into account; however, you can ask my supervisor about my lack of punctuality when it came to my assignment. I wouldn't say I didn't overcome obstacles during the production of my two videos, but I wouldn't say I did it in the correct way. It may not have been the ideal option, but it was the most practical at the moment.

Now, full disclaimer to anyone reading this, especially those who are planning a personal project, I do not recommend doing this, but in the end, I ended up compiling and finishing all of the videos and all of the things all at once, which is not a good idea, but it worked for me (again, I am not saying that you should do this, this is an example of things not to follow) and I am glad that it worked for me just fine.

Personal and Community Impacts

When I first started this project, I thought it would be a simple task to complete, but little did I know that the process leading up to where I am now is far from simple or perfect, with the ultimate goal of inspiring those and others to begin their cooking journey, and to be able to get them to start with nothing and ending with new skills that can be applied to our daily lives and to learn a new life skill that they will be able to utilize for the rest of their lives. According to my success criteria, I was fortunate enough to receive a total of 100 views throughout my mini series and even surpassing what was written on the success criteria by a couple of more views i was more than happy with that result, and i was happy enough that i was able to reach my end goal for the viewer count.

Every little piece of progress made during the completion of this project put me and my skills to the test, forcing me to focus on what I was good at and what I still needed to work on. This project really opened my eyes to the new found information that I have learnt about myself, the things that work for me and the things that don't. From different strategies of learning to the different things that helped me advance much quicker. As for the effect it had on others after collecting data from those who watch my videos

Based on the information provided from a survey i did, I believe there could have been a lot more things I could have done better in the creation of this product. It would have been good to have had more time to experiment with the video editing tools. We can see from some of the constructive criticism that I received from my viewers, half of the feedback comes down to the agreement that there were some difficulties in understanding the video due to how it was edited and shot overall.

The data also revealed that the demographic of people who watched my videos were not always moved or inspired to start cooking on their own; while it was entertaining to watch, the technical aspects of learning how to do it should be far more in-depth and detailed than what I did while creating my product. All of the aforementioned feedback has led me to believe that my project still has space for improvement, both in terms of cinematography and the aspects of learning gained from watching my videos. Thus far I would not say that I have fully completed my goal of inspiring others.
