Research Interests: Cancer prevention, screening and detection; accessible health technology (electronic Health Records, smartphones, wearable technologies); Sexual and gender minority health; Minority strengths
Currently, I am a first year post-doctoral studen at the University of Rochester, having succesfully defended my doctoral dissertation "Q Voices" in the Social Behavioral Sciences Program at Virginia Commonwealth University.
My areas of interest/expertise are prevention, screening, and detection of cancer; health technology specifically the utilization of EHRs and smartphones in improving cancer outcomes; the impacts of minority strengths and minority stressors faced by LGBT folk and people of color on health; and the effects of substance use and mental health on health outcomes.
Prior to beginning my doctorate, I was a substance use counselor in both an outpatient medication-assisted treatment center and an in-patient rehabilitation center. I completed a practicum in a private practice with focus on CBT, ACT, and exposure therapy. As well as worked as a case-manager in a spectrum of psychiatric settings.
My current goals are to achieve licensure and practice within both the private and non-profit sectors. Teach as an adjunct faculty within a social science department. As well as consult on health technology innovations impacting the cancer control continuum.
