ATAR (optional HSC Exam) - 2 Unit
This course provides students with the opportunity to obtain national vocational qualifications for employment in the hospitality industry. Students will be able to develop generic hospitality skills in customer service, communication, environmentally sustainable work practices, hygiene and safety as well as basic skills in food and beverage service. It is intended that students studying this course will gain an AQF Certificate II in Hospitality, or a Certificate of Attainment for competencies successfully completed. All units contain a practical component and materials will be supplied by the College.
Travel, tourism, luxury events and hospitality are all sectors that are among the most dynamic in the world. Training in Hospitality offers the potential to forge great careers across these sectors and other industries where the customer experience is paramount.
The amount of jobs hospitality is creating on a global scale places it in the upper echelon of growing industries. The hospitality sector encompasses a wide range of skills, ranging from accommodation to wine tourism, meaning there are a multitude of different jobs opening up in varying types of workplaces. The Australian Industry and Skills Committee predicted in September this year that an additional 91,000 jobs would be created by the hospitality sector in the next five years, growing the employment rate of this industry by 12.1 per cent. This isn’t relevant to just Australia either – the booming nature of tourism in all continents means the need for more hotels, restaurants and licensed venues are always rising.
Students completing this course are eligible to sit an optional, written HSC examination. The questions will be drawn from the Mandatory Focus areas and associated Units of Competency. The purpose of the examination is to provide a mark which may be used in the calculation of the ATAR. The examination if independent of the competency-based assessment and no impact on the eligibility of a student to receive an AQF qualification.
