Exclusions: Music 2 and Music Extension
Music Course 1 caters for students who have diverse musical backgrounds and musical interests, including those with an interest in popular music. It is open to students with a formal musical background as well as those with informal experience.
The Year 11 Course develops students’ knowledge and understanding about the concepts of Music. They will also develop skills in performance, composition, musicology and aural within the context of a range of styles, periods and genres of Music.
The Year 12 Course allows students to develop a greater knowledge and understanding of the concepts of music and skills in performance, composition, musicology and aural within the context of a range of styles, periods and genres.

This Music Course develops the necessary complex skills such as creative reasoning, independent decision-making and reflective judgment, to empower students to enter any chosen 21st century pathway.
Performing Arts students could go on to study in the following fields - Musician, Events Manager, Promotions Manager, Music Therapy, Performer, Composer and or Arranger, Sound and Audio Engineer, Record and Sound Producer, Music Theatre, Music or Instrumental Teacher, Conductor, Working in Radio, Film, TV and Multimedia.

Year 11 Course:
Three topics are studied in the Preliminary Music Course. This includes:
Music of Another Culture / Japanese Music
Music Theatre
Individual Choice Project.
Year 12 Course:
Three different topics are studied from the Year 12 Course List. Students choose three electives based upon their interests and strengths. The electives are chosen from the learning experiences of Performance, Composition and Musicology.
External Assessment:
Written Examination – 1 hour
Practical Examination
