HSC - 3 unit (outdoor rec) 1 unti (SLR)
This qualification reflects the role of individuals who assist with operational logistics and the delivery of recreational activities. They work under direct supervision and with guidance from those responsible for planning, finalising and delivering activities, including program managers and leaders.
Assistants use a range of fundamental activity techniques during activities and can work in indoor and outdoor recreation environments, adventure learning centres or camps. The combined skills and knowledge provided by this qualification do not provide for a job outcome as a leader and further training would be required before moving into those roles.
This qualification provides a pathway to work for any type of organisation that delivers outdoor recreation activities including commercial, not-for-profit and government organisations.
Sport, Lifestyle and Recreation (SLR) is a content endorsed subject that allows each school the flexibility in how it is delivered. Students learn about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle and recognise the need to be responsible and informed decision-makers.
This course enables students to further develop their understanding of and competence in a range of sport and recreational pursuits. They are encouraged to establish a lifelong commitment to being physically active and to achieving movement potential. At LCCC we have also adopted the philosophy of up-skilling the students while embedding a strong focus on community service. Students who elect to do SLR are given opportunities to gain qualifications across a variety of sectors.
Students completing this course will be enrolled in Cert II Outdoor Recreation and also Sport Lifestyle and Recreation. These two courses combined will contribute to 2 units in both Yr 11 and Yr 12. This course does not contibute to the ATAR.
