This subject would suit students interested in the design processes, design theory and design projects. The stage 6 course is a progression of the below subjects- students do not however have to complete these subjects in stage 4 and 5 to select stage 6 Design and Technology.
Main Topics Covered:
Year 11 Course
Designing and Producing includes the study of design theory, design processes, creativity, collaborative design, research, management, using resources, communication, manufacturing and production, computer-based technologies, safety, evaluation, environmental issues, analysis, marketing and manipulation of materials, tools and techniques.
Year 12 Course
Innovation and Emerging Technologies includes a case study of innovation. The study of designing and producing includes a Major Design Project. The project folio includes a project proposal and management, project development and realisation and project evaluation.

Stage 4- Engineering
Stage 5 - iStem/Design and Technology
Stage 6: Design and Technology
Course Description:
Design and Technology’s main focus is on design. It has a unique focus on creativity, innovation and the successful implementation of innovative ideas. Students will investigate the importance of evaluation, communication and collaborative design, as well as exploring current and emerging technologies. Students will have the opportunity to complete quality design projects.
In the Year 11 Course, students study designing and producing which includes the completion of at least two design projects.
In the Year 12 Course students undertake a study of innovation and emerging technologies and the completion of a Major Design Project.
In the Year 11 Course students must participate in hands-on practical activities.
In the Year 12 Course the comprehensive study of designing and producing that were studied in the Preliminary course are synthesised and applied. This culminates in the development and realisation of a Major DesignProject and the presentation of a case study
Particular Course Requirements:
A variety of assessment tasks across all the content of the course is used, including Design Projects, assignments and examinations.
