After Walter Saur graduated from Central, he entered the United States Navy during World War II. He remained on active duty as a pilot. He became a Commander in the 23rd Air Division. After his military service, Walter continued his education at several different colleges. He earned a BA at Coe College in 1949. He also attended the University of Iowa and Drake. Mr. Saur is a member of the American Bar Association. Walter is also a member of the American Legion and the VFW. He was the president of the Rotary Club. He received the Service Award from the Oelwein Jaycees in 1962 and named Citizen of the Year.
