Chapter 3

Order by Size, Length, & Weight

Kindergarten: Chapter 3 Outline

Week 12 - Week 13

Essential Questions:

    • How can I measure length, mass and capacity by using non-standard units?
    • How do you use weight and measurement in your life?
    • What tools and units are used to measure the attributes of an object?
    • What do you use to weigh and measure?

Content:

Students will know and understand:

    • that two objects can be compared using size attributes.
    • attributes of measurements (length or weight).

Skills:

Students Will:

    • pair sets of objects
    • order objects by size, length, and weight
    • use comparing words
    • compare size attributes of two objects.
    • describe several measurable attributes of a single object.

Upon completion of Unit 3:

  • K.MD.A.1. Describe measurable attributes of objects, such as length or weight. Describe several measurable attributes of a single object.
  • K.MD.A.2. Directly compare two objects with a measurable attribute in common, to see which object has “more of”/“less of” the attribute, and describe the difference.
  • K.MD.B.3. Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.
  • MP.2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively.
  • MP.4. Model with mathematics.
  • MP.5. Use appropriate tools strategically.
  • MP.7. Look for and make use of structure.
