Chapter 13

Properties of Triangles & Four-Sided Pictures

5th Grade: Chapter 13 Outline

Week 28 - Week 29

Essential Questions:

  • How can triangle angle relationships help you solve unknown four-sided figure's angles?

Content:

Students will know and understand:

    • Equilateral triangle
    • Isosceles triangle
    • Scalene triangle
    • Right triangle
    • Obtuse triangle
    • Acute triangle
    • Properties of a parallelogram, rhombus, and trapezoid

Skills:

Students Will:

    • Classify triangles by the lengths of their side lengths, and angle measures.
    • Understand and apply the property that the sum of the angle measures of a triangle is 180 degrees.
    • Understand and apply the properties of right, isosceles, and equilateral triangles.
    • Understand that the sum of the length of any two sides of a triangle is greater than the length of the third side.
    • Understand and apply the properties of parallelogram, rhombus, and trapezoid.

Upon completion of Unit 13:

  • 5.G.B.3. Understand that attributes belonging to a category of two-dimensional figures also belong to all subcategories of that category. For example, all rectangles have four right angles and squares are rectangles, so all squares have four right angles.
  • 5.G.B.4. Classify two-dimensional figures in a hierarchy based on properties.
