Angles and Patterns
Educational standards
NGSS MS-ETS1-4 Develop a model to generate data for iterative testing and modification of a proposed object, tool, or process such that an optimal design can be achieved.CSTA 2-CS-01 6-8 Recommend improvements to the design of computing devices, based on an analysis of how users interact with the devices.Common Core CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.7.G.B.4 Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and use them to solve problems; give an informal derivation of the relationship between the circumference and area of a circle.Learning Targets
Use motors to manipulate your environment.
Success Criteria
Students can use the Ultrasonic Sensor to detect and and respond to an object.
Balance Issues
Gyro Sensors measure changes in rotation to help determine orientation. Wheeled robots can use such sensors to navigate, make precise turns, and keep track of their position.
Human Robot
How far do you think you could continue walking in a straight line while wearing a blindfold? Choose a long hallway with a line down the center. Working in a team of at least 2 people, blindfold one of the team members and see how far they can follow the line without going off course. Make sure they don't bump into anything!
Questions to Ponder
What does it feel like to lose your balance?
How does your body know you have lost your balance?
What might happen if your robot gets off course?
Program Your Robot
Open the EV3 Classroom app found on your computer's hard drive and click on Units at the top of the screen,
Complete the Angles and Patterns lesson.
Class Discussion
What was the main challenge of programming the robot using the gyro sensor?
