FIELD STUDY 2 - LEARNING EPISODE 19 WRITING AN INITIAL REASEARCH PLAN
REFLECT
What was your experience in writing the action research plan?
Writing the action research plan was a bit challenging but also rewarding. It helped me organize my ideas and think deeply about how I can improve my students’ learning. It was a great way to focus on a specific problem and find ways to solve it.
What knowledge, attitude, and skills did you have that helped you accomplish it?
I had knowledge of teaching strategies and student learning styles, which guided me in creating an effective plan. My positive attitude towards learning and willingness to try new methods helped me stay motivated. I also have good organizational skills, which made it easier to outline and structure the plan.
What do you still need to learn and develop in yourself to be a skilled teacher researcher?
I need to improve my skills in analyzing data and interpreting results. While I am comfortable implementing new strategies, I still need to learn how to better assess the impact of those strategies on student progress. Additionally, I need to develop a stronger ability to reflect on the outcomes and adjust my plans accordingly.
Work on my Artifacts
Your artifact will be taken from your activity in preparing an action research plan in this episode. You will just expand the answer that you have given and place in the template below.
My Initial Action Research Plan Proposed Title: Improving Student Participation and Summarization Skills through Collaborative Learning in English 9
I. My Identified Problem:
Many students struggle with summarizing texts and writing in a journalistic style. They find it difficult to pick out key points from longer or more complex readings. Additionally, some students are not fully engaged in class, particularly when they have to work individually. This lack of participation affects their understanding and mastery of the material.
II. My Reflection about the Problem:
I’ve noticed that the difficulty students face stems from their lack of confidence in distinguishing main ideas from supporting details. This skill is crucial for summarization and journalistic writing, yet many struggle with it. Moreover, students who find it challenging to work alone tend to disengage from lessons. I believe that making learning more interactive and fostering peer collaboration could address this. Collaborative learning could not only enhance their understanding of the content but also build confidence by allowing students to learn from one another.
III. My Plan of Action:
To address this issue, I plan to implement collaborative learning strategies in the classroom. I will group students into mixed-ability teams, ensuring that each group includes fast, average, and slower learners. By working together, students can support one another, with stronger learners guiding those who need more help. I will rotate leadership roles within the groups to encourage responsibility and active participation from all students. Through this approach, I aim to improve both their engagement and their summarization skills by having them collaborate on identifying key points and writing journalistic summaries as a team.
