FIELD STUDY 1 – LEARNING EPISODE 11 UTILIZING TEACHING – LEARNING RESOURCES AND ICT
REFLECT
ACTIVITY 11.1
Which of the materials in the Learning Resource Center caught your interest the most? Why?
The books caught my interest the most because they offer in-depth knowledge on a variety of topics and can be used for both independent learning and classroom discussions.
Which gadgets/materials are you already confident to use/operate?
I am confident in using the laptop and projector for multimedia presentations.
Which ones do you feel you need to learn more about?
I need to learn more about operating the TV and handling the slide projectors effectively.
ACTIVITY 11. 2
Put yourself in the place of the teacher. What would you do similarly and what would you do differently if you would teach the same lesson to the same group of students? Why?
If I were given the chance to be in the place of the teacher, I would similarly use PowerPoint presentations, the projector, and multimedia resources because they effectively enhance student engagement and understanding through visual aids. However, I would incorporate a combination of traditional learning materials, such as handouts, books, and printed diagrams. This would ensure that the lesson caters to diverse learning preferences, including students who may benefit from physical materials. By balancing technology with traditional methods, I can create a more inclusive learning environment where all students, regardless of their learning styles, can participate and grasp the lesson content. Additionally, using a mix of teaching aids would allow for more dynamic and interactive activities, such as group work or individual exercises that go beyond digital resources.
ACTIVITY 11. 3
Describe your experience in surfing the internet for appropriate electronic resources for the class? What made it easy? Difficult?
I found it relatively easy to search for online resources because of the availability of great educational tools like Google Slides and TED-Ed. Both are easy to use and accessible, which made them perfect for creating presentations and finding engaging content. The difficulty came when I was looking for resources that specifically focused on Sartre’s concept of "absolute freedom." I needed something that could break down the idea in a simple yet accurate way, so I spent some time choosing resources that presented this philosophy in an understandable manner.
How did you choose which electronic resources to include here? What did you consider? Explain. Which of the new trends in Education 4.0 would you like to explore more for your work as a teacher? Why?
I picked Google Slides and the TED-Ed video because they’re clear and interesting. Google Slides allows me to organize the main points in an easy-to-follow format, and TED-Ed makes abstract concepts like Sartre’s philosophy easier to understand by using animations and simple explanations. When selecting, I thought about what would engage the students the most while helping them understand a complex topic.
For Education 4.0, I’m really excited about exploring virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) more in the future. I think these technologies could make philosophy come to life for students. Imagine using VR to explore philosophical ideas by experiencing them firsthand, which could help deepen their understanding. I believe these tools would keep students more engaged and help them better connect with the material.
Reflect on your technology skills. What skills do you already have, and what skills would you continue to work on to be better at utilizing education 4.0 resources?
I’m comfortable with basic tools like Google Slides and video platforms like TED-Ed, but I know I need to get better at using more advanced technology. For example, I’d love to learn how to use virtual reality (VR) and interactive apps. These would allow me to create more hands-on, immersive lessons that can make abstract ideas, like Sartre’s philosophy, more relatable and exciting for students. I also want to learn more about gamification in teaching—using games to teach lessons, which could make learning more fun and engaging for students.
ACTIVITY 11. 4
How can MOOCs help you in your future career as a professional teacher and as a lifelong learner?
MOOCs offer flexible learning opportunities that I can use to continue growing as an educator. By exploring new teaching methods, expanding my content knowledge, and improving my skills in areas like assessment and classroom management, MOOCs can significantly enhance my teaching career. They also encourage lifelong learning, keeping me updated on the latest educational trends.
What did you learn from the way the providers use technology to teach in the MOOCs?
I observed that MOOCs use a variety of multimedia tools, including video lectures, discussion boards, quizzes, and interactive assignments. These elements engage learners and help them understand complex topics in an interactive way. The use of online platforms for collaboration and feedback also demonstrates the importance of technology in creating a dynamic learning experience.
How will you prepare yourself for MOOCs, as a learner, and as a teacher who may someday teach a MOOC?
As a learner, I will prepare by setting aside dedicated time to engage fully in the course material. I will also participate in discussions and activities to maximize learning. As a future MOOC instructor, I plan to become proficient in online teaching tools and create a course that is engaging, accessible, and effective for students from diverse backgrounds. I’ll focus on creating interactive lessons, providing timely feedback, and fostering an inclusive learning environment.
SHOW Your Learning Artifacts
1. Include here pictures/illustration of the materials used by the teacher. Put your comments/annotations about what you observed.
My resource teacher uses a PowerPoint presentation to present his lesson for the day. The slides are clear, visually engaging, and provide key points and examples. The use of visuals, such as images and diagrams, helps students better understand abstract concepts, especially in grammar and literature.
I observed that the PowerPoint presentations help make the lesson more engaging, especially for visual learners. The structured format allows students to follow the lesson step-by-step. This material is especially effective in breaking down complex concepts, which is essential for my students in understanding my subject.
2. Visit www.teachnology.com or other teacher resource websites. Print useful instructional materials (worksheets, visual aids, flashcards, rubrics, etc.) and include them here. Indicate how they might be useful considering your major or area of specialization.
As an English major, rubrics are essential because they provide a clear guide for students on what is expected in their writing. It helps them understand how to structure their essays and what areas they need to focus on to improve, such as grammar or thesis development. Using a rubric allows me to give consistent and specific feedback to my students.
