During my time at Bolo Norte National High School for Field Study 1, I had the opportunity to observe and learn about the school’s environment, its facilities, and how everything works together to support students. I started by familiarizing myself with the school facilities, including the principal’s office, classrooms, canteen, comfort rooms, school clinic, and counseling room. One thing that really stood out to me was the Menstrual Health Management Rest Area and Menstrual Hygiene Corner in the comfort room. I was amazed at how the school addressed an important aspect of student well-being, especially for young women. This made me realize how vital it is for schools to be aware of students’ health needs and provide the proper resources to support them.
In the classrooms, I noticed how the walls were filled with educational materials like posters on health and hygiene. These posters were not just informative, but they also encouraged students to take care of themselves and each other. This small detail made me realize that a well-organized and supportive classroom environment is key in helping students feel comfortable and ready to learn. It also reinforced the idea that a positive learning space can have a big impact on student well-being and academic success.
As I observed my resource teacher, Sir. Salvador C. Clores, I learned so much about classroom management and teaching strategies. Sir had a clear routine that included prayer, taking attendance, greeting students, and motivating them before diving into the lesson. I really admired how he was able to connect lessons to the students’ real-life experiences. This made the lessons feel more relevant and engaging for them, and it showed me how important it is to make lessons relatable to students. When students can see how the lesson applies to their lives, they are more likely to pay attention and participate.
One thing that really stood out was Sir. Clores' use of different teaching resources, like the blackboard, TV, and laptop, to keep the lesson interesting and interactive. This made me realize how essential it is to use a variety of teaching materials and strategies to meet the diverse needs of students. Not every student learns the same way, so it’s important for teachers to be flexible and creative with how they teach. The use of different resources also keeps students engaged and helps them understand the lesson from different angles. This experience showed me the importance of differentiated teaching strategies and how they can make a big difference in helping students learn at their own pace and according to their needs.
From this experience, I learned that having a structured routine in the classroom is crucial. It helps everything run smoothly and creates a sense of order and consistency for the students. I also realized that making lessons relevant to students' experiences and using various teaching materials can make a lesson more interesting and effective. It’s important for teachers to consider the diverse needs of their students, and using different teaching strategies and resources is key to ensuring that all students are able to learn and succeed.
As I move forward in my teaching journey, I plan to apply these lessons. I want to create a conducive learning environment where students feel comfortable, supported, and engaged. I will use a variety of teaching materials and strategies to meet the different learning styles of my students. Most importantly, I will strive to make my lessons as relevant as possible to my students' lives so they can see the value in what they are learning and stay motivated to succeed. This experience has helped me understand how important it is to create an inclusive and supportive classroom, and I will carry these lessons with me as I continue my studies and eventually begin my career as a teacher.
