FIELD STUDY 1 - LEARNING EPISODE 4 LEARNER DIVERSITY: THE COMMUNITY AND HOME ENVIRONMENT
REFLECT
Reflect on your own development as a child. What type of parenting did you experience? How did it affect you?
I experienced an authoritative parenting style, which was very effective. My father allowed me freedom to socialize with friends but set clear limits to ensure safety. His encouragement to participate in school activities helped build my self-confidence and explore my interests. He also instilled important life values, such as prioritizing responsibilities and treating others with respect. This upbringing fostered my independence, sense of responsibility, and a strong moral compass, which has positively influenced my personal and academic growth.
As a future teacher, how would you establish good home-school collaboration? How can you work well with the parents? How can you help them? How can they help you?
As a future teacher, I would foster open and regular communication with parents to establish a strong home-school collaboration. I would keep them informed about their child’s academic performance and behavior, and invite them to share their observations from home. I can help parents by offering insights into their child’s progress and suggesting ways they can support learning at home. In return, parents can help by providing valuable information about their child’s needs and home behavior, which allows me to tailor my teaching approach. A collaborative effort ensures that both the home and school environments are working together for the child’s development.
