Sizing

How to measure for Women’s Apparel

Bust - hold measuring tape level across your back and measure under the arms and around the fullest part of bust to determine the full circumference in inches.

How to measure for Men’s Apparel

Chest - hold measuring tape level across your back and measure under the arms and across the chest to obtain the full circumference in inches.

Please note: If your measurement falls between the numbers below, determine whether you prefer your coat a little larger or a little more snug and choose your size. (Remember, you may be wearing a sweater or heavier clothing under your coat in late fall and winter)

If it turns out that your coat doesn't quite fit right after you will receive, you will have the opportunity to exchange it for a better fit in the Admissions Office.

White Coat FAQs

1. Q: What time do students need to be at Severance Hall?

University Program and MSTP Students

A: In order to be in the line-up for the procession into the Main Concert Hall, all University Track and MSTP students need to arrive at Smith Lobby (on the ground floor of Severance Hall) by 10:00 a.m. for continental breakfast. Additional information will be disseminated during this time and you will line-up for your procession into the Grand Hall.

2. Q: What time should families arrive at Severance Hall for the ceremony?

A: The doors to the main concert hall will open at 10:30 a.m. for guests. Parking is available in the Severance Hall garage for which there is a change. The garage may be accessed off of East Blvd. See the Severance Hall's website for additional information. Also, there are some additional directions and information below.

3. Q: I’m an incoming medical student. What is the dress for the ceremony?

A: The dress is business attire: shirt and tie for men and business-appropriate for women. Comfortable shoes should be worn but no athletic shoes or flip-flop sandals. It is not necessary for men to wear a suit jacket (it might be tight when you receive your white coat).

Ladies, we caution you not to wear super high heeled shoes! You will be walking up and down a set of steps (in front of A LOT of people) to get onto and off the stage.

4. Q: Can students bring personal belongings with them into the Main Concert Hall?

A: No. Personal items may NOT be carried during the ceremony. Items such as purses, cameras, etc. should be left with family members or taken to the coat check area upon arrival at the Hall.

5. Q. What time does the ceremony begin?

A. 11:00 AM

6. Q: How long will the ceremony last?

A: The ceremony will last a little over an hour. Following a class photo on the front stairs of Severance Hall, a celebratory reception with food and beverages for your family and friends will take place in Smith Lobby and the Grand Foyer.

7. Q: Do I need to order tickets for my family?

A: No. You will not have to reserve or purchase any tickets, as there will be plenty of seating for the ceremony and food at the reception

8. Q: I have guests with special needs. Will there be special arrangements for them?

A: We suggest that special needs individuals enter Severance Hall via the East Boulevard drop off area. Coming from Euclid Avenue, the pull-off area is on the right just after the turn onto East Boulevard. Guests may enter the building at this entrance and take the elevator to the main floor seating area. The East Blvd. drop-off may be used for special needs, ambulatory guests and guests in motorized carts. It is recommended that people needing assistance be dropped off at least a half-hour before the ceremony begins to give them sufficient time to get upstairs.

If a wheelchair is needed to get only from the drop-off area to the hall, Severance will be able to provide one. Severance Hall ushers will be available in this area for anyone in need of assistance. Guests with special needs are welcome to sit in any box on the balcony level that is not reserved with someone’s name. If you would like to discuss reserving a box for your family, contact Barbara Waltermire or Kathy Malone. There is room in each box for 4-6 additional family members. Wheelchair seating is also available on the main floor.

If you have any questions please contact Barbara Waltermire or Kathy Malone at 216-368-3109 or email us at whitecoat@case.edu
