Photoshop CS5 Multiple Images into One
Objective: Create a digital scene by combining multiple images using PhotoShop CS5 CS6
Requirements
1. Start with landscape
2. Add 3 or more different photos to create a new scene
3. Add Shadows to objects
STEP 1
· Find a landscape scene on the Internet I used this road. Right click and copy the image you find.
STEP 2
Open Photoshop CS5
Click File New
Make sure you select clipboard for Preset, this will make the canvas the same size of your image
STEP 3
Select Painting for your Workspace
STEP 4
If your picture is too large to fit on the screen then zoom out
Zoom in Canvas
Hold down Ctrl and Alt then Roll mouse roller to zoom in/out
STEP 5
· In Google click on Search tools and select color then transparent this will allow you to find pictures with a transparent background.
STEP 6
· Copy the image and paste it into Photoshop
STEP 7
· If the picture has a background after it has been pasted right click on the eraser tool and select magic eraser
· Now click on the background to erase it
STEP 8
· Click control T to transform the picture this will allow you to move and resize the pasted image.
· Click on any other tool and apply the transformation
STEP 9
· Find your second picture and copy paste it into Photoshop
· Click control T to transform the picture this will allow you to move and resize the pasted image.
· If you need to flip your image like mine you can go to Edit > Transform > Flip Horizontal
STEP 10
· Find third image and copy paste into Photoshop
· I want to use a light saber for the kitten
· Press Ctrl+T to transform the light saber you can also rotate it by placing your mouse just outside of one of the corners of the image
STEP 11
I will find a lighting photo to add to the squirrel then copy, paste and resize in the Photoshop
You may have to change the order of the layers so the lightening goes behind the hand of the squirrel
In the bottom right hand corner of Photoshop is your layers
Double click the word Layer 1 to change the name do this for all layers
Now drag the layers to the correct order the top layers is on top of all other layers the bottom layer is always your landscape
STEP 12
· Colorize the lightening sometimes you want something in a different color
· Click on the layer you want to colorize
· Click drop down menu Image > Adjustments > Color Balance
· Adjust the color till it looks just right
STEP 13
Add Drop Shadow to the kitten and squirrel
First hide all layers except the squirrel by pressing the show/hide button on the layers menu
Now click on the background with the magic wand tool
Then click on Select > Inverse to select only the kitten
Click on the Fx button found at the bottom of the layers pallet
Select drop shadow and change the numbers as shown I use distance 100, size 10, opacity 50%
STEP 14
· You now have a shadow I want my shadow to be in front of the kitten since the light source is from the left edge of the landscape.
· Your kitten should look like this
· Right click on drop shadow and select Create layer
· Press Ctrl+D to deselect the kitten outline
· You now have a new layer called kitty’s drop shadow
STEP 15
· Hide the kitty layer
· Select the kitty’s Drop Shadow layer
· Click Edit > Transform > Flip Vertical
· Click Edit > Transform > Distort
· Change the angle and size of the shadow to make it look nice
· You may want to unhide the other layers to make both shadows look the same
· Repeat the steps for the shadow of the squirrel
STEP 16
· If you want to add more to your picture like a truck coming down the road you can
· Sometimes the picture you want to use doesn't have a transparent background
· You can still use these pictures it will just take another step to erase the background
· Copy your picture into Photoshop and hide all other layers
· Select the Quick Selection Tool
· Start inside the truck and click or drag across the image you want to select
· If you select more than your image you can subtract that part back out by holding down the alt key while you click or drag
· Once the entire image is selected click Select > Inverse the press delete to erase the background
· Click Ctrl+D to deselect your truck. Unhide all layers.
· Move into position and re-size you are now done. You could add a shadow or special effect if you want.
