Google Sites Web Page Project

 Step

 1) Pick a theme for you web page here are http://www.markammay.com/100-creative-ideas-for-a-website/ to choose from.

 2) Log into Google and click on Google Sites.

 3) Click Create choose Classic sites

Name your site as your theme and click the red Create Button again.

 4) Buttons: In the top right of your first page you will see three buttons

 5) Click the Edit button and add an opening statement for your home page that meets your theme. After you are done click the blue Save button 

 6) Find an image by searching the Internet and save it.

 Click the Edit button then click Insert Image 

The image has different options that can be controlled with the buttons

Try out the different alignments, sizes and wrapping to get your picture to look great

 7) Create 4 more pages that meet the theme of your site.

Click the Create Page button 

Type a name for the page and save.

Repeat this for all four pages.

Notice the navigation links are automatically added for you.

 8) Choose Layout for all pages Click on the More Actions button Then select Edit Site Layout

 9) Site layout controls what areas are displayed in your site

These include:

 10) Header the header is the top part of the web site you can turn it on or off.

You can also add a logo. Try adding a logo to get a nice one it should be approximately 800px wide and 200px height. 

 11) Footer the footer is at the bottom of the page and can also be customized. Click on the bottom of the page to hide or reveal the following settings.

 12) You can also define a Custom footer. This can be used to add a meaningful quote or a catchy phrase or an image near the bottom of the page. 

 13) Sidebar this is the default navigation for your pages it is not the right but you can change its location.

You can also add some nice additions to your sidebar.

Click the + button on the sidebar and add a countdown

The plus sign can also add page authors and text to your side bar try them out.

The pencil symbol on the sidebar allows you to change the width of the navigation area to this if your page names are too long to fit on one line

 14) Click on the Sidebar to edit the pages that you link to you can add more pages here or even links to other websites. You will have to un-check the automatically organize my navigation to add or delete pages.

Notice the arrows you rearrange the order of the links with the arrows.

You can also make pages sub-pages of others by using the right arrow.

The add page button can only add pages you have created in your site

The Add URL will add a link to another website.

 15) You can also add Horizontal Navigation if you would like. It works just like Sidebar navigation. First you must click the gear and Edit Site Layout.

Then click the Enable Horizontal navigation button at the top 

No pages will be in the navigation so you now need to add pages by clicking on the Horizontal Navigation area under the header.

Add pages and rearrange them just like the Sidebar

 16) Change the Theme, Colors and Fonts for your page

Click on the Gear: More Actions button and select Manage Site then click on Themes Colors and Fonts.

 17) Here you can change your Base Theme to a pre-designed color look in one click.

Try them out you can change at any time.

You can also customize each area of your page including:

• • Site Header

  • Content area

  • Content area and gadgets

  • Sidebar gadgets

  • Horizontal navigation

You can customize background colors, font style even add images for the backgrounds.

 18) Add YouTube video. This is done very easily in Google sites.

Go to YouTube and find a video copy the URL of the video.

Now go to edit mode of your page click insert YouTube

 19) Paste the YouTube URL into the box and click save.

 20) Add gadget. Click insert More Gadgets

Now search in the public area for a gadget.

These are add-ons to your web page. Things like calendars, games, news, buttons etc.

Some gadgets don't work so be careful. 

 21) Add a form to your webpage. 

Forms are used to collect data. They can be a survey, question or informational.

Your contact page would be a great place to add a form.

Open a google form by clicking on the Apps button then click on Forms

 22) Click on Blank New Form

 23) Name the Form Contact Info

The first question will be "Name" and have a short answer option

 24) Forms ask questions with different answers options

Short answer requires the user to type something like their name.

Multiple choice gives users different answers to choose from

Checkboxes would work great if someone was ordering a pizza and selected all the toppings they want.

Explore the different options you can use any combination of answer choice in a form.

 25) Second question

To create another question click on the plus button now choice multiple choice

Type "What destination are you interested in?"

Make this question relevant to your site.

You can even add pictures to the question.

You can also make the question required if you want.

 26) Third question 

Type "Email" and select short answer 

 27) Change look of form 

The form has setting to change colors

Click the color palette button and select a color or theme

The setting or gear button allow you to automatically collect email, limit to one response etc.

 28) Send form

Click the Send button the click the embed button <>

Copy the embed HTML code

Go back to your Google Site and click edit the page now click the <HTML> button

This will open the HTML code for your page

Paste the embed form code and click update

You now have a form on your site

 29) Change size of form to avoid scrolling

If you form has scroll bar try changing the size by editing the form gadget the gear symbol allows you to do this.

 30) If you want to look at the data you have collected from your form open your form click on the res ponces then the sheets icon.

This will open a google sheets document that will contain all the submitted information.
