Objective: Create an animated GIF using Text and pictures
Requirements:
Create 5 different animations
At least 2 of the animations must contain text
At least 2 should animate a picture
At least 1 should have a picture you have drawn

Direction
I will show you how to make different types of Animations in this tutorial.
I will start with a simple bouncing ball
Open PhotoShop CS5
Picture
Click File New
Make sure you select Default Photoshop size for Preset:
Select Painting for your Workspace
Zoom
If your canvas is too large to fit on the screen then zoom out
Hold down Ctrl and Alt then Roll mouse roller to zoom in/out
Find Image
In Google click on Search tools and select color then transparent this will allow you to find pictures with a transparent background.
Try to find a ball picture.
Make the picture larger by clicking on the thumbnail
Now right Click on the picture and select Copy Image
Paste the Image
Paste the image into your PhotoShop document by pressing Ctrl + V
If the picture has a background after it has been pasted right click on the eraser tool and select magic eraser
Now click on the background to erase it
Open Animation Window
Click on window menu and check animation this will open the animation window
The Animation Panel has 7 Main Sections
How many times to play animation
Play, pause, forward, reverse controls
Tween Tool
Duplicate selected Frames
Delete selected Frames
Convert to timeline animation
Frames
Duplicate Frames
Click on Duplicate selected Frames to add a second frame
Now use the Move Tool (V) to move the ball in frame one off the left edge of the canvas
Click on frame two and move the ball to the bottom of the canvas like show to the right
Frame 1 is the starting position of the ball
Frame 2 is the ending position of the ball
Click the Tweens Animation button
this will create a "Tween" or animation between the starting and ending positions.
Click the Play button to watch your animation
Add second bounce up
Duplicate the last frame of your animation
Click on last frame and move it to the bounce up position
Add another tween animation
Play animation
Repeat to get the downward bounce
This process can be done over and over to create the animation you would like
Save the Animation
Click File Save for Web and Devices
Make sure to select Looping Options forever
Check it out
You can now open your gif in web browser to see what it looks like
Animation 2 Happy Face
Click File New
250px X 250px with a transparent background name it happy
Once open zoom in to make full screen and make sure Animation panel is turned on just as before
Draw the Happy Face
Use the Ellipse Tool the Draw a circle you can hold down shift to make it perfectly round
Draw Eyes
Use the Ellipse Tool to draw some eyes after you draw click on color selector in the tool properties to change eye to white
After you draw one eye hold down Ctrl + Alt as you drag to make a second eye exactly the same size
Now Draw some eye balls using the same method
Customized
Your face can be customized anyway you like mine is basic happy face
Mouth Layers
Now create three new layers and name them small, medium, large
These will be the names of how big the smile is
Draw Smiles on Different Layers
Use the Brush Tool color black to draw a small smile of small layer medium smile on medium layer and a large smile of large layer
Make sure you select the correct layer to draw on a good way to check is by clicking on the eyeball next to the layer to hide it
Make four frames in the Animation panel
Click the Duplicate selected Frames button to create four frames
Frame Smiles
1st frame small smile
2nd frame medium smile
3rd the large smile
4th the medium smile
To do this we hide the other two layers from the layer menu while in the correct frame
Hide by clicking the eye icon next to each frame
Frame 1 should look like the picture to the right
You can also move the eyes to give it different expressions in each frame
Frame Delay
It is probably too fast so we will change the duration of each frame
Click where it says 0 sec. this will bring up a panel to select different delays
Change the delay for all frames to 0.2 seconds except for the full smile change to 1 second
Save
Use the same process as before in step 13 to Save your animation
Create Animated Text
Click File New Name it Text animation
Width: 1000px
Height: 150px
Background: Transparent
Type Name or Meme
Use the Text tool and type out your name or a school appropriate Meme
Use a large text size
Choose Font and Color and style
You can choose and FX if you would like for your Text I used Stroke
Create Layers for each Letter
Use keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + C to Copy and Ctrl + J to Paste Layer
Do this for every letter in you animation
Hide all layers except Bottom
Click on the eye icon in the layers menu to hide the layers do this for all layers but bottom
Erase Letters on Layers
We now want each layer to contain part of the word
The bottom layer will contain only the First layer
The second layer from bottom will contain the first two letters etc.
Click on Text tool and highlight the part of the word you want to erase click delete
Reveal the next layer and repeat the process
Make Frames from Layers
Turn on Animation Panel Click on window menu and check animation this will open the animation window
Now find the Properties of the Animation panel in the top right corner
Select Make Frames From Layers
Play your Animation
Try it out you can change the duration of each letter just like step 23
Save your Animation
Use the same process as before in step 13 to Save your animation
