Log in to your Google account Click Apps then Drive
Click Create then Document

Change Margins
Click File Page Set Up
Select Landscape orientation Change Margins to 0.2" for Top, Bottom, Left and Right
One Page View
Hold Ctrl and roll your mouse roller to zoom out on your page until the whole page is visible at once,
Add Table for pages
Click Table Menu
Click Insert Table 2 X 1
Change Table Properties
Now Change the table properties so it fits in the entire page
Highlight both cells of the table
Right click inside the table and select Table Properties
Change Table Border to 2.25 pt
Change Minimum Row Height to 7.75
Change Cell padding to 0.5
Copy Table for next three pages
Highlight both cells of the table
Copy it by using Ctrl+C or Right click Copy
Do this three times to give you a total of 4 pages
Page Number Formatting
When you format a book the pages are not the way you might think. For an eight page book your pages must be formatted as follows.

Open Drawing
We will start by adding page 8 to the top left page of your book.
Click Insert Drawing
Create Page number
Now that the drawing module is open
Click on Actions then Word art
Now type 8 in box and press enter

Press Save and Close now the number is on your Page
Move 8 into position
Click on and and select Wrap Text
Drag the 8 to the bottom left corner of the page
Create Page Number 1
Use the same technique as above to create page number 1
Drag this to the bottom right edge of your page. Use the red line the pops up to help you align it with the 8.
Number the Rest of your Pages
Use the same technique to create your other page numbers
2 and 7
6 and 3
4 and 5
Type your Story
To make sure you keep the same number of words per page, you want to type your story on a blank page.
So click file new document name it "Story"
The story should be 200-500 words in length.
Use standard Font and size
Color Black.
Don't add any paragraph breaks in your story.

Split Story into 8 Sections
Split your story into 8 equal sections.
Press enter twice to separate each section.
Use Tools Word Count to find your total words.
Divide your total Words by 8 to find approximately how many words should be in each section.
Google docs will count your words automatically
Copy Story into Pages
Highlight the first section of your story.
Copy it Ctrl+C.
Paste Ctrl+V in to the Page 1.
Continue to Copy - Paste until all your story is copied into all your Pages.
Find pictures for Story
Use the Google to find pictures for your story.
You will need 1 picture per page.
The best pictures to use are at least 300 pixels wide
Clip art type.
Have white backgrounds and
Don't have watermarks
Google images can help you find these
Open Google and click on images.
Type the term you are looking for then customized the search by click on Search Tools and Type.
Change the type to Clip Art
Insert Pictures into Pages
After you find a picture that fits the information of the page right click on it select copy image
Then right click on the page and select paste.
If needed re-size image and /or
Crop Image
To Re-size drag a corner handle
To Crop right click on the image and select Crop
Repeat for all other pictures
Add Fancy First Letters
Many story books have larger first letters. These are called illuminated text or drop caps. To do this in Google Docs we will add Word art just like we did when we added the page numbers.
Highlight the first letter on page one.
Click Insert Drawing
Click on Actions the Word art
Now type the first letter on page one in box and press enter
Press Save and Close now the letter is on your Page
Select Inline for the wrapping of the letter and re-size to make it about twice as large as your other text.
Add Fancy First Letters to your Pages
Repeat step 18 for the rest of your pages.
Re-size Pictures and Text to Fill Pages
Change the size of the Font and picture so they fill up the entire page.
I used Font size 18.
Font size between 14-32 is the best.
Be consistent on your font size.
Adjust your picture size to fill in the rest of the page.
Continue on all the rest of your pages.
The pages of your book are now done.
Create Cover Page
Now add a fifth page by pressing enter. The Cover Page will have 5 elements.
Title
Author
Publishing Info
Front Cover Pic
Back Cover Pic
The key is to make sure that nothing is placed between the 4.5" and 5.5" mark on your ruler.
Add Page Border
Click Table Menu
Click Insert Table 2 X 1
Now Change the table properties so it fits in the entire page
Highlight both cells of the table
Right click inside the table and select Table Properties
Change Table Border to 6 pt
Change Minimum Row Height to 7.75
Change color of border if you would like
Add Book Title
Click Insert Drawing
Click on Actions the Word art
Now type the name of your book and press enter
Press Save and Close
Select Wrap Text and re-size to make fit in the top right corner.
Add Picture
After you find a picture right click on it select copy image
Then right click on the page and select paste.
Select Wrap Text and Drag picture to the right half of the cover.
If needed re-size image and /or
Crop Image
To Re-size drag a corner handle
To Crop right click on the image and select Crop
Add Author
Click Insert Drawing
Click on Actions the Word art
Now type your name and press enter
Press Save and Close
Select Wrap Text and re-size to make fit in the bottom right corner.
Add Publisher Name
Click Insert Drawing
Click on Actions the Word art
Type the name of your fictitious publishing company and press enter
Press Save and Close
Select Wrap Text and re-size to make fit in the bottom left corner.
Add Picture to Back of Book
Adding an Avatar or a cartoon version of the author can be a good picture to add either on the back of the book or on your "About the Author" page if you did an ABC book.

Right click on it select copy image
Then right click on the page and select paste.

Right Click on the Picture select Text Wrapping and select Tight.
Drag your image it to the Left side of your Cover.
Resize it.
Printing Pages
Click File then print
If you have a printer which will print on both sides of the paper
Click File Print
Click Print Using System Dialog
Click on Preferences
Change to following:
Orientation: Landscape
print on both sides: Flip on Short Edge
This will allow you to print on both sides of the paper
Folding Pages
To fold the pages of your book start by placing the lowest page number of each sheet facing up.
Next fold it in half so that the lowest page number is facing up
Place all the pages together in order
Put cover page around it
Staple book together
Now you need to borrow a long reach binding stapler from your library. Most have these
Open your book up and lay flat
Make sure cover is facing up
place three staples in the fold
You are now done great job.
If you don't see the ruler go to view menu and select show ruler.
