April 25th—ANZAC Day—marked another year in commemorating the fallen soldiers lost in the wars.
Prefects from Rosmini and Carmel Colleges, along with students from St. Joseph’s Primary, attended the Takapuna parade. Commencing at 8:45 am from Sander’s Ave to The Strand, students from our Kāhui Ako lined up with ex-servicemen and other personnel.
At The Strand, the service was MC’ed by Takapuna-Devonport Board Chair Melissa Powell and accompanying musically was Harbour Voices and the North Shore Brass Band. The cenotaph guard was the local cadets—No.6 Squadron Air Training Corps. The Hon Simon Watts, MP for North Shore, was also in attendance.
ANZAC Day is a day of remembrance of the fallen soldiers, without whom we wouldn’t be standing here today. Our students were an important symbol of the continuation of this into the younger generation, and a timely reminder that many were only around high school age going into the war.
Lest we forget.
