On the 11th week of term 1, Carmel College celebrated Book Week, which is an annual event filled with competitions, games, and of course, books! Book-themed activities were held throughout the week, including a fun book trivia Blooket, and a ‘Continue the Comic Strip’ drawing game in Atawhai.
A highlight of the week was the book character scavenger hunt held during lunch on Wednesday. Juniors raced through the school, solving riddles to find locations and answering book-related questions. After solving the final anagram at the end of the scavenger hunt, the girls were given a pack of lollies as a prize!
The year 7 and 8s showed off their extravagant costumes at the Parade on Friday at morning tea. Music from famous book-to-movie adaptations played from the speakers, transforming the atmosphere of the top courts and creating a space where books could be celebrated.
The Carmel College Book Week Committee organised exciting stalls on Friday lunch. From girls whipping up the scrumptious sausage sizzles on the barbecue to the intricately designed chocolate bark from The Enchanted Forest and even the bubbling butterbeer served in Harry Potter, it was a blast!
Last but not least, the Book Week Writing Competition winners were announced at the Carmel Whole School Assembly. Both the junior and senior winners were awarded vouchers from the local bookstore! The Carmel College Reading Competition will continue until the end of term 2—so if you’re a Carmel student, you should get involved for the chance to win!
