August 9th was an exciting day for the international student cohorts at Rosmini and Carmel Colleges. An annual International Student Party, traditionally hosted by St. Mary’s College, was to be held that day and it would be a first time attending for both Rosmini and Carmel.
Among them, St. Peter’s College, Baradene College of the Sacred Heart, Marist College, Sacred Heart College, and of course the hosts, St. Mary’s College were also in attendance.
The event started with a disco and photo booth in the hall and a hotdog stand outside run by a group of leaders from St. Peter’s and Rosmini Colleges. Following the sausage sizzle, there were also pizzas for everyone to enjoy; no one was left hungry and leftovers were taken home.
Over 100 students across the seven schools enjoyed a night of socialising and dance, making new friends in the process.
The party highlighted the amount of diversity we have in our local community and the amount of students willing to study here, both in the short-term and long-term. The event acted like a platform to allow the students to share their own unique stories and experiences living or moving to study in New Zealand.
Overall, the event was a great success and set a good tone for future cross-collaboration in inter-school international departments.
It was decided that Rosmini College would host the International Student Party for 2025.
