How do you understand the concept of sensemaking in relation to your teachig practice?
The way we understand the concept of sensemaking in relation to teaching is by offering the children opertunities to express themselves by using a variety of media and experiences. Also by having acrivities that are based on student interest and asking them open ended questions to expand our exploration.
What is something that you’ve learned about your students (and their funds of knowledge) that has influenced your class projects or class structures?
I learned that my students are very creative and unique in how they express themselves. At the begining of the school year we showed them pictures from an exhibit from the Mexican Fine arts Museum. We gave them the materials to explore creating dioramas. Some of our students wanted to work on their own. Some wanted to creat a group project. Both came up with some incredible creations that I will add in the photos.
How have you investigated your teacher inquiry questions thus far?
Erin and I have observed the chidren's intrests and discussed with them what materials they would like to explore next. They have showed an interest in sewing and clothes making. That is what our focus will be in January.
**IMPORTANT: Make sure to describe all photos in detail-- What are students doing? What are they learning? How are they engaging in sensemaking? How are they exploring their inquiries?**

We observed some pictures from the Mexicam Fine Arts Museum. We provided boxes and collage supplies. Some kids decided to work on their own and some in a group. Here are some examples of the work they did.

We noticed that what worked best is letting the kids trouble shoot and problelm solve on their own. We just facilated the supplies. Encoraged their creativity by asking them how do they think what material would work best. And suppervising hot glue gun. We just observed, supported and praised their creations. This gave them the creative freedom they needed to make their dioramas.
