Welcome to your class portfolio! The purpose of this site is to show CAPE the development of your arts integration partnership, as guided by your big idea and inquiry question.
Feel free to use the format we have constructed, or you can use "content blocks" from the "Insert" tab, which will allow you to customize the space as you would like.
No matter the format you use, make sure you have the following:
Planning Form: you must fill out the planning form in the embedded document.
Class Content: brief summaries of each semester's activities and findings.
Media: Include your best documentation with captions. Upload any media to your designated class media folder. Once there, videos may be embedded on this page by clicking "Drive" (under "Insert") on the right-hand side menu, then selecting your video from that folder under "Shared with me."
IMPORTANT:
Please do not edit any other pages other than this, your class' page!
Please make sure that all media that you upload only displays students whose parents have given consent to their documentation through the signed Media Consent Form. Should you upload images of a student who has not given their consent to be documented, please make sure to blur their face.
The big idea of the Olin Class is to create a learning environment that fosters community spirit, promotes environmental awareness, and provides an opportunity to learn new skills, like screen printing and upcycling.
How can we integrate arts, environmental conservation, and community building to facilitate an engaging, enriching, and practical learning experience?
Screen Printing
Students will be asked to create drawings inspired by their community. These drawings will then be incorporated into a screen-printed design on a shirt, with students teaching and learning from each other throughout the process.
Upcycling Project
Students will make bird feeders from recycled materials, which will not only aid local biodiversity but also promote discussions on upcycling and sustainability.
Through group projects and peer-led learning, students will develop communication, cooperation, empathy, and emotional management skills. The process of creating artwork that reflects their community encourages self-awareness and social awareness. Making the bird feeders requires decision-making and problem-solving skills, promoting responsible decision-making.
Reflecting on the Olin Class, it was fantastic to see how involved the students were in planning our projects. They drew pictures of their neighborhood for our screen printing project, showing their love for their community. For the bird feeder project, they shared their own recycling ideas, and chose where to hang the feeders, demonstrating their care for nature.
Perhaps the most exciting part was seeing students teaching each other how to screen print. This showed their teamwork skills and their eagerness to learn. All in all, their active involvement was key to our class success, proving that they can achieve great things when they come together.
