How do I have my Remind messages translated for families that don’t speak English?

Remind has a built-in translation feature.  At the bottom of each message in the app or on the web is a button that says “Translate”.  Clicking this allows you to translate your message into one of over 60 languages.

Before you can send a translated message, make sure you've already:

• Set your preferred language for your Remind account. 

• Linked your class to your organization.

• Linked a preferred language to each of your message recipients' account.

Notes: 

Only Google Translate's languages are available for translation.

The translation feature is set to disable by default, so you must enable the translations feature for every message you want translated.

If you add a new participant to your class after you've scheduled a message, and their preferred language is not already a part of the list of languages scheduled, we will not translate the message into that user’s language. 

Ex. You've scheduled a message to go out in Spanish, English, and French. You add a participant whose preferred language is German, we will not send them a message in German. However, if you add a participant whose language is Spanish or French, we will send them a translated message.

Can Remind automatically translate my English messages to Spanish?

In order for a recipient to translate incoming messages automatically via Remind, two things need to happen: 

First, the recipient's device needs to be in their native language, meaning, the language they want to receive messages in. This is not set in Remind, rather, the recipient's device settings, meaning the recipient's phone would need to be set to their native language.

If the recipient's device is set to their native language, the second thing that needs to happen is both the sender and the recipient need to be sending and receiving messages through the app. 

If the sender is sending messages through the app, and the recipient is receiving messages through the app and the device they have used to download the app is set to their native language, then messages will translate automatically.

If the message is automatically translatable within Remind, you'll see a link to toggle back and forth between the original and the translation.
