Sora is a digital reading app--available on smartphones, tablets and desktops--that provides students with free access to a collection of high-quality, diverse ebooks and audiobooks available in a user-friendly interface designed specifically for K-12 readers.

The Sora app offers interactive, customizable features, including: dyslexic-friendly font, bookmarks, dictionary definitions, exportable notes/highlights, and synced progress and bookmarks.

Sora assigns Content Access Levels (CALs) according to the grade level associated with each student’s ID as it was entered in Clever. CALs are defined as: K-5 = “Juvenile” sub-collection, grades 6-8 = “Young Adult”, and grades 9-12 (+ staff) = “General Adult”. Once the CALs are in place, students will only receive access to age appropriate content.

The "Sora Sweet Reads" program annually offers 30 free, simultaneous use juvenile/young adult eBooks (and select audiobooks) to students each summer! By connecting students with this resource now we are setting them up to be more active readers over the long break.

Link Sora to user’s local public library’s digital offerings:
Once the Sora app is installed and after they've searched for/connected through Canby School District:
Click on the school/district's name to get a small drop-down menu to appear with the green “+ Add a library” button
Beneath where it says “Find your library,” CSD user needs to type in /search for “Oregon Digital Library Consortium” and add!
FYI: The ODLC is a statewide collection of public libraries (which includes the Canby Public Library as part of the Libraries that have pooled their resources to provide Library2Go, a shared digital collection of thousands of eBooks and audiobooks.
NOTE: Borrowing titles through the ODLC requires a valid library card & 4 digit PIN. This is the same PIN that used to log in to their public library’s online account. If they do not know their library card # and/or PIN, they will need to contact their public library directly for assistance (CSD has nothing to do with this).
From within the “Oregon Digital Library Consortium” collection,
Search and select a title to borrow.
Sora will ask user to “Sign into your library > Select your library” by selecting the local library consortium from the drop-down menu. For most CSD users, this will be the “Libraries in Clackamas County” .
This is when user enters valid local public library member # and PIN.
If entered correctly, Sora will connect and the title is now available for check-out and, once downloaded, will be available within the Sora user’s ODLC collection “shelves”.
If there are issues logging into user’s public library account: As mentioned above, user will need to contact their public library directly to resolve, as this is out of the CSD’s Sora jurisdiction, so to speak. <:-)
