Introduction and Philosophy
As a kid my family moved about every three to five years, so I really cant say that I grew up in a certain place. The places that I have lived are Utah, Louisiana, Wyoming, Oklahoma, Texas and lastly Montana. The learining environment in all of these schools were significantly diffrent from eachother. Although I learned a lot from most of the schools, the years that most influenced my education where my junior and Senior year. In my Junior year I had a teacher who cultivated my love of learning and little did I know , he was the one to spark my teaching aspirations. I graduated from Billings West High School in 2022.
In the summer between Senior year and the sat of college, I had the opportunity to travel to Thailand where I was able to teach english to the children there. All of those little children running around, brought me happinessess and fanned the flames of my want for teaching. At first I wanted to teach english but found my true love in Art Education. I am so excited to continue my eduction and eventually inspire students to love teaching.
Philosophy
I believe that every child is unique and has something special to bring into the classroom. It is my job to help those students enhance their ability and encourage them to do things that may be outside of their comfort zone. I also believe in having a safe learning environment for all students. Where students are free to speak their minds without the fear of being ostracized. A place where the student does not feel like they need to hide who they truly are. Along with that I believe that creativity is one of the most important skills that a student can cultivate during their time at school. Creativity is not just creating something new, it's thinking outside of the box , how to use critical thinking, and how to problem solve. I understand that not all of the students will fit into the perfect student mold and that sometimes they will need a little more help. I also firmly believe that students are not to be talked down to. They are all human and require respect. With that respect come their respect for me. These are a few of the things that iI believe in when it comes to my students.
Inside of my classroom there will always be hands-on work for the students to do. Nothing will ever get done if the student is in front of a PowerPoint all day. They need to learn how to make things with their hands. To experiment, to create. Of course for every project there will be a set of guidelines that tells the student the general idea of what to create. Before the students start the assignment I will sit them down and do a demo on how to create such a project. I will encourage them to watch and take note on what to do. If there are any issues concerning the project I will be more than happy to help the student with that concern. Each student will have a task to do at the end of the class. They will all need to put their things away and clean up for the next class. If they are not able to do so I will kindly ask them to stay after and finish up. Every student deserves a clean learning environment.
Throughout my years of creation I have found that the best way to create is by talking with those around you. Asking for advice on a creation or help on a particular issue. Finding people that you feel comfortable around is important in a creative situation. If a student isn’t confident or comfortable in the class then their core potential cannot be unlocked. I have found my core teaching potential in my Teaching as a Profession class at BYU I and in my Education Psychology as well. In both classes they have dived deep into the core of students and of the school system. In Education Psychology, we talked about and studied the psychology behind the way students act and behave in school. Understanding that gives us an inside to how each student is feeling and how to address emotional situations.
