I believe that students will be more willing to engage when they can see that you genuinely care about them. Because of this, you should strive to show them you care, by being attentive to their needs and treating them with compassion. Another way to do this is to consider where they are at while you are planning your lessons and incorporate ways to meet them there. Taking the time to build in ways to support them will benefit your students and help remove barriers in their learning.

Conclusion
Overall, I learned that integrating developmental characteristics into lesson plans is not too difficult, and adds more depth to the plan as you consider what is expected at the stage of development the lesson is for. Considering these characteristics helps you make the lesson plans more realistically attuned to where your students are developmentally. With each lesson plan my confidence in creating them grew, and I was able to feel that I knew what I was doing by the time I reached the last one. I think this was a valuable experience because I have learned some helpful skills I can transfer to future lesson planning to make my lessons more rounded and considerate of where the students are at.
