Hi! My name is Seth Mitchell. I am from the small town of Sequim, Washington, and I want to be an elementary school teacher when I grow up! Working with children has always been a passion of mine, and I want to be a positive role model to the up-and-coming generation. I love to play musical instruments, and I would like to start a rock band someday.

Teaching Philosophy
Teachers should be able to be taught. The teacher's role is to act as a guide. Students must have access to hands-on activities. Students should be able to have choices and let their curiosity direct their learning. Students need the opportunity to practice skills in a safe environment. Technology must be incorporated into the school day.
Summary
It is important to see my students as children of our Heavenly Father. It takes all kinds of people to make this melting pot of a world spin, and I cannot wait to see what kind of people I will be working with. As a participating teacher candidate, not only did I get the opportunity to speak and give my insights into our group conversations and lessons, but I also received the privilege of listening to my fellow teacher candidates and their insights. I feel that together we made a great team and were able to find success, even if we all came from different backgrounds and had opposing opinions.
Deliverable 1 - In a class activity, we took a random thought about Sea Turtles and turned that into a deliverable that we could teach in class. As we discussed concerns we had about the hardships that the turtles go through from hatching to their lives in the ocean. We put our conservationist hats on and crafted a lesson on how we might be able to learn about their biology and how we can help conserve them. It was a wonderful team effort.
Deliverable 2 - This specific deliverable was planned and taught to the class by my group. We wanted to teach the class the importance of children's "Sense of Self" is, and how to help our future students enhance their Self Concepts. One aspect we decided was very important was the concept of "Self Handicapping," where we roleplayed 6 ways we handicap ourselves and our learning ability.
Deliverable 3 - In my time, I created a lesson on the ways we can motivate our students. I wanted to focus on how comparing ourselves to others' progress and success can be detrimental to our success. I wanted to involve the class as much as possible and help them feel heard.
Deliverable 4 - We put ourselves in the shoes of a High School teacher in a low-income school and posed the question "What can we do as teachers to promote good health and well-being?" When coming up with this deliverable, our frontload was to imagine our future students, and what we wish for their health and well-being. And of course, we want our students to be healthy, eat healthily, get enough sleep, and get enough physical exercise; but we also focused on the developmental stage of these theoretical students. During late adolescence, we discussed the dangers of risky behavior that they may be involved in, and how we could discourage that. I remember a lot of that happening around me during my high school years, and I appreciated the effort that was given to promote good health in the student body.
Deliverable 5 - For this deliverable, I explored the State of Idaho's teaching standards, and the basic needs of human survival caught my eye. While rather simple, I felt students need to know what it takes to facilitate and preserve life. The three main things I focused on were food, clothing, and shelter, with jobs being talked about later on. I feel children could give great examples of what they couldn't live without, and this may lead to other activities( i.e. show and tell).
Deliverable 6 - I wanted to give my theoretical students a platform to discuss rules, school safety, and how it provides us with a positive work environment. I want students to be honest and tell what they see. Do they see bullying happening on a regular basis, are the rules being enforced enough? Do you feel safe coming to school? We should be constructive when it comes to rules so our students can feel safe about coming to school to learn.
Mind Map [Self and Social Understanding] As my team studied and prepared our lesson about the Sense of Self, I was assigned to organize our notes and divide them into subcategories and organize them into a mind map.
I wanted to focus on keeping my students motivated, happy, and safe; while also making them excited to make the world a better place to be in. I feel with these deliverables, my students would be able to be contributing members of their student body, and also grow up to be spectacular human beings!
