Introduction and Philosophy
Hello, I'm Travis, I'm from a small town called Milton Pennsylvania, I am currently attending BYUI and I am and English education major. I have had a great desire to learn and to grow as I pursued a career in education.
My interest in education came from when I was in enrolled in the BYUI pathway program. During my writing course I enjoyed having some creative freedom on what I wanted to write and use the proper research. I wanted to give that same sense of creative freedom to students in a classroom and I have learned so much of I want in my future classroom.
Summary
In the duration of this semester we looked at many different theories and researches of child phycology in the educational field. We learned how to implement these theories in many different classroom settings. Since every perspective teacher would naturally be teaching different age groups we looked at different case studies and applied different methods and strategies that would fit best according to what ever age group we would be teaching.
We looked at different chapters from the Child Development and Education By Teresa M. McDevitt and Jeanne Ellis Ormrod to help guide us in making our own lesson plan and then teach it. This was especially enlighten for me as it was great way to collaborate with other students and make a lesson that we could all teach together and apply what we learned. We were able to become an expert on our own topic that we could then teach to the class, we made to the agenda we set the goals we wanted to accomplish and we had the criteria that needed to be taught. That experience has opened the door for me to think outside the box and think of different topics that i could then make a deliverable out of. I was able to learn from my peers and their lessons that everything can be expanded upon, and there is no shortage of research for any topic you wish to have a lesson on.
My ultimate goal is to ensure that I foster learning and creativity. This class has taught me that we have a duty and a responsibility as teachers to help our students with their futures and that begins with a healthy and safe learning envoinment. Not every student is going to be the exact same but every student has potential and we can provide the tools and knowledge necessary to help propel them forward.
