I grew up in New Mexico, and always loved being a curious person, and asking any and all the questions. My Educational history is pretty basic, I went to a public Elementary school, Middle, and High School. I graduated from Las Cruces High School in May of 2020 and originally planned on going to College right away in Texas, which led me to make a big change and move to San Antonio at just 18 years old! I didn't end up going to College right away though, and instead took two years off after high school to focus on bettering my personal life, and working full time to gain experience in the real world. Im thankful im finally able to start my college career and i'm on track to graduate in fall of 2026!
I've always known I wanted to be a teacher. For as long as I could remember, I knew that teaching children especially, was something I was meant to do. I always talked myself out of it because I had doubts about the money aspect, or if people would take me seriously being an Elementary school teacher, so over the years when I was going through high school figuring out what I wanted to do, I changed my mind many times. Though my mind kept changing through various professions, I knew my heart was set on one thing. Teaching the future generation to come.
The philosophy I personally believe in is that every student is individual and has certain feelings and thoughts that are personal to them and we should help them to figure those thoughts out. When we are young, it can be hard to really grasp and understand the lengths of emotions and trying to figure out how you want to express yourself. I believe that if the students have a safe and comfortable place to let them be free, and let them be kids, it will, in turn, end up being a better learning environment for the kids and they will be more excited for learning.
One way I'd like to incorporate this in my classroom is something I've thought about for a long time and I've always wanted to try this out. To have "non-conventional" types of seating for the children. Things like, bean bag chairs, couches, pillows, etc. I think at the end of the day kids are kids! asking them to sit still for a long period of time is extremely difficult, let alone asking them to sit still on the floor or on hard chairs?
I do believe that there also is a balance. Letting kids be kids is extremely important when it comes to their overall development, but I do understand as well there are limits and rules. In my classroom, I want to have the students help make the rules. It's a good way to make sure they feel like they're being heard and it could help lessen the amount of times the rules are broken, because they chose them!
At the end of the day, each child is different and requires different kinds of attention. My goal is to have a fun, loving, kindness-oriented classroom where students feel free to be themselves, but at the same time, feel like they're actually valuing and using the things I'm teaching them.
For my deliverables, i thought it would be nice to give a summary about what I have put for them and why i decided to include these specific ones. For the first one, Moral Development, i did this one as a team and we touched on how we can include it in the classroom. This means things like how we can help students set and respect boundaries and how that will help them in the future and in the classroom. The second one i included was about how i wanted to teach my future students how to be kind humans and how i plan on incorporating into my future classroom. i think its super important for students to learn at a young age the importance of being kind and why we need that attribute in our lives. If we teach them young, it'll be something they remember for a long time and can use all throughout their lives. The third one is about feelings of a first love. That is super important to understand especially if you're teaching an older age group where they may be experiencing these feelings and emotions for the first time. This is explaining how to help navigate those complex emotions and how we can better understand. The fourth one is about health and someone's overall well-being. This explains why its important to be healthy in your everyday life, but also in education. It is important to understand the benefits and disadvantages of eating healthy, getting enough sleep, working out, etc. The fifth one we did as a class and we learned how we can help save the sea turtles. we all shared our thoughts and opinions and wrote about how we can help them in the present and in the future to come. The last one is about developing healthy emotions. Now most emotions, are healthy to feel. We wouldn't be human if we didnt feel emotion, but sometimes it can be unhealthy. Unhealthy attachments to be exact or unhealthy habits can impact all of these.
