Leveled readers are a key evidence-based strategy for differentiating instruction and supporting all students, including those with reading deficiencies and dyslexia, as they progress toward reading increasingly complex texts. By providing appropriately challenging materials, leveled readers allow educators to scaffold instruction while ensuring students develop decoding, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension skills at their own pace. Leveled readers are categorized by Lexile, ensuring that students engage with texts at their instructional level while working toward more complex reading. Students move through progressively challenging texts with teacher guidance, building stamina, comprehension strategies, and critical thinking.
