I designed a specifically tiered assignment for my ELL student Thiago to better support his language development, particularly in the areas of pronunciation and grammar, where he has been struggling on the SOLOM. Given his current challenges, I chose a tier 2 assignment, as it was more aligned with his language proficiency and allowed him to engage meaningfully with the task. The topic of plants was selected because it directly connects to what we are currently studying in class, making it more relevant and accessible for Thiago. By focusing on tier 2, I was able to provide a manageable level of challenge while still encouraging him to expand his vocabulary and comprehension.
The results were positive: Thiago successfully completed the assignment, and I observed improvement in his confidence and his ability to articulate his thoughts more clearly. This tiered approach seemed to support his learning needs while giving him a sense of accomplishment.
