One of the 5 terminal branches of the brachial plexus, the median n. is formed by the union of part of the lateral cord and part of the medial cord. It passes through the arm, into the forearm, through the carpal tunnel, and into the hand. The muscles innervated by the median n. are shown in the figure. The median n. also provides sensory innervation to the skin of part of the hand (also shown below).
