The dural venous sinuses receive CSF and venous blood from the brain and carry that blood to the jugular foraminae, where the left and right sigmoid sinuses become the internal jugular vv. The sinuses form where two layers of dura separate from one another. Some of the sinuses are spaces between the periosteal and meningeal dura (superior sagittal sinus, transvererse sinuses, sigmoid sinuses), but others are spaces between 2 layers of meningeal dura (inferior sagittal sinus, straight sinus).
