Drawing and Writing 2

Lines, dots, and squiggles

Watch this video for directions.

In Sometimes I’m Bombaloo, the illustrator uses lines, dots, and squiggles. You can use crayons, markers, or pencils to make pictures with lines, dots, and squiggles like the ones in this video.

Things to think and talk about with your family

Do your lines you go up and down or side to side ?

How does it feel when you concentrate to make lines, push down to make dots, or move your hand to make squiggles?

Drama & Storytelling

SEESAW ASSIGNMENT

Read Aloud to dolls, stuffed animals, or family members

Watch this recording for directions.

One way families show they care for each other is by reading stories together. This week in Drama, you can read stories to dolls, stuffed animals, or to someone in your family. You can use the illustrations to help talk about the setting, the characters, and what happens in the story.

Take a picture of yourself reading to your dolls, stuffed animals or family members and post it on SeeSaw

SEESAW ASSIGNMENT

Sensory & Science

Moving water

Watch this video for directions.

Fill up a sink or big container with water. Then use spoons, cups, or other things to play and experiment with the water.

Just like last week, we're thinking about how water flows. Just like in Oonga Boonga when Baby Louise's tears flowed "like water to the sea".

Some things to try:

Can you make the water move in circles?

Can you make the water move faster/slower?

How does the water looks when you move it fast/slow/in circles?

Familiy note: this is an open-ended exploration. You can set your child up with water in a sink, tub, or big bowl and let them experiment. This is great way for children to explore and develop independent thinking and exploration skills.

1) Watch the recording for directions

2) Find materials for making a mask.

3) Choose a feeling that you want your mask to show

4) Create your mask

5) Take a photo of you in your mask

6) Follow the SeeSaw directions to post the photo on SeeSaw

SEESAW ASSIGNMENT

Construction

Toppling Buildings

Watch this recording for directions.

In Peter’s Chair and in Sometimes I’m Bombaloo, the characters construct buildings that topple. This week, you can use small building toys or Beautiful Stuff to make a tower, castle, or other structure and then practice making it topple.

Things to think and talk about with your family

What kinds of materials make it easier for your building to topple? How can you make your building more stable so it doesn’t topple easily?

How is your building the same as or different from Peter’s tower or Katie’s castle?

Family note: This is an open-ended activity for your child to build, think, topple, and make connections to the stories. You do not need to submit on SeeSaw

Outside Time

SEESAW ASSIGNMENT

Outdoor Drawings

Fall is a season full of colors. Use crayons, colored pencils, or markers to draw pictures of leaves, trees, or other things you see outside.

If it is a warm day, see if you can find a place outside to do your artwork. If it is cold, maybe you can sit inside and look out the window for ideas to draw about Fall!

Take a picture of your artwork on SeeSaw

Tell about what you created and colors you used.
