Building & Construction
Stability Challenge
In Gilberto And The Wind, the wind blew Gilberto’s balloon, and the gate that he sat on. What do you notice? What else did the wind blow in Gilberto and the Wind? Today in Building, you can use Beautiful Stuff to build stable structures that the wind can’t topple. After you build your structure, test its stability by blowing hard or using a paper fan.
Materials and Preparation:
Beautiful Stuff (boxes and containers); paper (folded to make a fan)
Drama & Storytelling
Caring for Animals
In One Dark Night, Jonathan helped the mother cat and her kittens take shelter from the thunderstorm. How else did Jonathan care for the mother cat and her kittens? People often care for animals by giving them food, shelter, and if they are sick, by taking them to a veterinarian--an animal doctor. You can pretend to take care of animals at home, or to be a veterinarian and care for animals when they are sick.
Materials & Preparation:
Bowls (for animal food and water); blanket or cloth; Beautiful Stuff (to use as food, medicine, toys. leash); toy or stuffed animals if children have them at home. Otherwise, they could make stuffed animals using mittens, socks, and Beautiful Stuff {see guide} or ask a family member to play with them and take turns pretending to be a favorite animal.
