In 5th Grade Science, students are having fun with measurement and subtracting decimals, while they make DIRTY WATER! "Dirty Water", you say?? Yes!! Now, they will come up with creative ways to engineer a way to FILTER this water!! They can start thinking of ways to solve many of earth's most vexing issues, TODAY!!
We have been investigating where our dirty water goes and how it is cleaned in science. Here are some pics of kids using things they created to try and clean some dirty water. They then reflected on what elements of their creation took things out of the water and what things they thought were still in the water.
Team Warriors students were building with Hula Hoops during free time in PE4Life.
Ms. Calohan's Virtual Art classes are working on a weaving project. Virtual students have materials waiting (if you need them) outside of the front doors of Creekside. Virtual students were given cardboard last semester, and can use that as a loom. Blended students were given starting materials in class, but are welcome to bring their own yarn. Ideally, it would be easier for the students to have their own skeins of yarn to work with...but it's not mandatory. I've notified the students that I found some small bundles at the Supercenter for $1.77, if it's possible for you to pick up. If you would like to donate yarn, please put it in a ziploc bag, and deliver to the school (you can email me first).
The goal for late February, early March, is to start a clay project. The students from last year were just ready to start with ceramics just as school let out. Doing this virtually will be a challenge, but you'll see how interested your students are in completing the work! For virtual students, there might be more driving to the school to pick up and deliver the clay work. Blended students may also have a bit of homework to complete these two large assignments.
