Students of Ms. Calohan have been busy again this quarter. Sixth graders are wrapping up the unit on Ancient China and the Terra Cotta Warriors. Their coil pots were fired over break, and now they're putting on the finishing touches with underglaze. Ceramic pots will display in the library for a few weeks before coming home. After finishing "dragon plates," loosely copied from Chinese Porcelain, sixth graders will move on into a few drawing lessons, and then hopefully, into weaving and textiles.
Calohan's 5th graders are jumping ahead a bit, and making plans for their Original Works piece--a fundraiser that will take place in April. Bird drawing has been the focus for two weeks before setting it aside to venture into the Medieval Period--Gothic Cathedrals--and clay! Fifth graders have several jobs they've started and have set aside--so later this semester, they'll be doing some serious multi-tasking.
For all art students, please be aware that students will need to put their best foot forward in order to keep up with the fast pace. We have a lot going on, and not much time to "go."
