Coaches model digital citizenship and support educators and students in recognizing the responsibilities and opportunities inherent in living in a digital world
A) 4.7: Inspire and encourage educators and students to use technology for civic engagement and to address challenges to improve their communities.
To support this standard, I included my "MAD learning app," which was created for informational purposes, in this app. This app helps promote technology use in our school by providing students and staff with multiple outlets, access points, information pages, and valuable links. This app was created to create more engagement within the school climate and to have an accessible app that all parties could use. This also responsibly promotes engagement while overcoming the barrier of miscommunication. You can access a preview of the app here.
B) 4.7: Partner with educators, leaders, students and families to foster a culture of respectful online interactions and a healthy balance in their use of technology.
My colleague and I, in charge of the PBIS committee, created a graphic, expectations grid, and email etiquette overview. This graphic helps outline rules and standards for online learning, which was later used in the EXCEL program. We also promote professional atmospheres when conducting learning online or interacting via email. All this is to facilitate how to use technology appropriately while also preparing students for digital expectations outside of high school.
C) 4.7: Support educators and students to critically examine the sources of online media and identify underlying assumptions.
In order to create appropriate use of technology and digital media, it is important to teach students about digital responsibility. It is also important to teach students how to overcome bias to focus on reliable sources of information. In addition, our school also works to promote digital safety by giving tips on how to keep accounts safe and avoid dangers online. The PowerPoint and Webquest take students through a variety of tasks to help keep them safe. There are links to useful resources that can also be shared with the community and parents.
D) 4.7: Empower educators, leaders and students to make informed decisions to protect their personal data and curate the digital profile they intend to reflect.
From EDTL 6350, I decided to include a small project about network safety. On this website, there are a variety of tips, troubleshooting strategies, and resources for safe networking in education. It is important for educators to have access to information about the ways that their personal information can be compromised. Knowing how to counteract these issues will ensure personal data is kept safe and secured when networking within a school.
